Rabbit, Run - John Updike I will admit that the writing was excellent, but also admit that Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom was one of the most hated protagonists I have have had the displeasure to encounter. At one point I did not know if I could continue to finish this book, but then I looked at the big picture that if Updike can get me to this strong emotional reaction he is really accomplishing what most authors only wish they can do which is to connect emotionally with their readers regardless if it is a negative one. I just could not give this book more than three stars due to the loathsome Rabbit but I will also admit one last truth, which I might actually read the second book in this trilogy just to see if Rabbit becomes likable at all.
